Apple may launch the iPhone SE 4 as early as next week; Here's what to expect

Apple is gearing up for a significant upgrade to its budget-friendly iPhone SE, and tech watchers might not have to wait long. According to a report by Bloomberg, the refreshed model could be announced as early as next week, with sales starting later this month. Instead of the usual fanfare, Apple may skip a formal event and quietly reveal the new device on its website.

The updated iPhone SE is expected to ditch its outdated design for a look more in line with the iPhone 14, complete with Apple’s AI-powered software. With demand for affordable smartphones rising in key markets like India and China, Apple seems ready to attract more buyers by offering premium features at a competitive price point.

New design, USB -C, and improved features

The iPhone SE, last refreshed in 2022, has become a bit of a relic. It's the only iPhone still clinging to a home button and missing Face ID. The new version is set to bring a modern facelift, inspired by the iPhone 14. It will feature Face ID, a larger screen, and the latest A18 chip to support Apple's AI features.

Apple will also make a key hardware change for compliance with EU regulations. The next iPhone SE will include a USB-C port, allowing the device to be sold in regions where older Lightning port models have already been banned. While Apple hasn’t confirmed these details, dwindling stock of the current SE in its stores hints that a launch is imminent.

Affordable price

The iPhone SE currently starts at $429, making it significantly cheaper than the $799 regular iPhone 16. In India, it is expected to be priced around Rs 45,000 However, with the revamped design and improved features, there’s a chance Apple may raise the price slightly. Even so, it’s expected to remain in the ballpark of similar mid-range smartphones from Samsung and Google.

Apple hopes the updated SE will help boost its sagging iPhone sales, which saw a 1% dip last holiday season. In overseas markets like India and China—where Apple faces stiff competition from local brands—the combination of premium features and a sub-$500 price tag could help the company expand its foothold.

Apple’s bigger tech plans for 2025

Apple’s refresh of the iPhone SE is just one piece of its larger tech strategy. The company is reportedly working on a range of new products, including an upgraded MacBook Air with the M4 chip, fresh low-end iPads, and updated iPad Air models. Pro desktops and a smart home hub with a display are also on the horizon.

Fans of Apple’s audio gear have something to look forward to as well. The next-gen PowerBeats Pro 2, expected to debut around Feb. 11, will reportedly include a built-in heart rate monitor. This could set the stage for similar features in future AirPods models. With so many new launches on the way, Apple is clearly making big moves to stay competitive in multiple tech categories.
